Karen and I showed up at Bells Corners. At the appointed time, we left in a very orderly convoy and proceeded to Munford’s in Calabogie, where we found Tom, Eric and Luc waiting for us. Eric is a recent new member, but has done the Bat before earlier this Summer. Since that time he has significantly upgraded his jeep, adding 37 inch tires and 5.11 gears. Also participating as a guest in a silver JK was Luc. Luc is a friend of Eric and is also planning to join. Both are from the Perth area.

Earlier this week I mentioned that I was looking for a Sunday adventure. Evan was suggested taking a trek down Straddlebug and kindly supplied a recent track. This set the scene for Sunday’s “May or May not be Straddlebug” run.
The “May or may not be Straddlebug” run started Sunday morning at 9:00 with four Jeeps meeting at Loblaw B.C.. Marc was there in his CJ7, Tom and Tony in their TJs and Serge in his four door. (please forgive any mistakes with names, it’s one of the things I have no...

Trail Report – Camp EOTB – August 2013
What a great Camp this year!!!
Almost 40 members of the extended EOTB family – young, old, and all ages in between – participated in the Camp and it turned out to be a huge success.
Thanks to Paul D., the campsites were well organized and everybody who was able to register in time had a good spot. Our hosts, the Black Donald Trailer Park, were gracious as always, delivering wood and message by golf cart right to our sites and checking several times a day to see if we needed anything. T...

Trail Report – Lavant – July 2013
A total of 5 trucks and their intrepid owners met yesterday at the Loblaw’s parking lot in Bells Corners. After the normal period of chatting and comparing of fixes and changes, we left at 09:30 sharp and headed out to Hopetown, arriving at 10:25.
At Hopetown we found Chris Palko waiting for us with another 5 trucks, making us a mixed band of 10 stock(ish), slightly modified, and somewhat more modified trucks. After exchanging pleasantries and a brief drivers’ meeting, we headed out to the tr...

Trail Report – Gorge – June 2013
It all began on a soggy Sunday morning in Bells Corners. Five trucks, with their brave drivers gathered in the parking lot preparing for a fun day on the trail. The rain was light, and we were all hoping it would subside before we reached Burnstown. We left Bells Corners a few minutes ahead of schedule, and we were no sooner headed towards the Queensway when the skies opened up, and it truly began to rain.
We made our way to Burnstown, hoping the sky would rain itself out before we hit the tr...

Trail Report – Crag Lake Back to Front – May 2013
We had a small group for Saturday’s trail run, with only four of us, myself, Burns, Etienne and Craig B. leaving Bells Corners and collecting Tom at Munford’s. When we arrived at the dam to air down, there was a quite a crowd with the OVO Spring Fever campers everywhere and a significant ATV crowd. Having confirmed OVO’s agenda for the day, we decided that the back door would be feasible with this small a group.

Spring Schedule Changes
Tuesday evening a few of us from EOTB and OJC went to the Gorge trailhead for a quick reccee to see firsthand what the road/trailhead is like. The road that leads to the trailhead is very soft and there is still some snow along the side of the road.
Both OJC and EOTB have decided not to do trail runs at the Gorge this coming weekend. Instead EOTB will clean up Hwy 508 near Calabogie in our semi-annual Adopt-A-Road initiative. I just wanted to let everyone know ASAP so that they can adjust the...

Algonquin Land Claim AIP Update
Information for Off-Roaders
The governments of Ontario and Canada have negotiating with the Algonquins to settle a long standing land claim by transferring 117,500 acres of crown land to the Algonquin. Another 30,000 acres will become a new park. The transferred land will become private land and the Algonquin will be able to use it or develop it just as any private landowner can.
This is a multi-year plan with agreements that need to be ratified by the Algonquin and details yet to be deter...

Winter Studies
While winter is upon us, some of us are working on trucks and some of us are studying up to get our Amateur Radio licences.
There are a couple of advantages to having our trail leaders equipped with amateur radios:
Amateur radios can transmit at much higher power (250 watts with Basic certificate) than CB radio (4 watts maximum), which means greater distances with ground wave propagation
Amateur radios have access to repeaters that can increase the range of the radio, even at low power, by ...

Adopt-a-Road Clean-up & Club BBQ Report
Honestly I was getting a little anxious with all the rain coming down hard on Friday evening, that we would have to postpone the adopt-a-road cleanup. But come Saturday morning, the skies cleared up just as forecast.
We didn't get as many cleanup volunteers as we had in the spring, but we certainly had enough enthusiastic members to get the job done. We met early at Loblaws in Bells Corners and we were on the road by 0900hrs. At Munford's in Calabogie we met Peter Z and his family. We broke i...

Trail Report – Calabogie Line – September 2012
Meeting at Bells Corner on an overcast day, there were already a couple trucks ready to go. Greg made a grand entrance through the flock of sea gulls basking in the pavement heat. For a few brief moments it reminded me Alfred Hitchcock's, The Birds. They weren't deterred and resumed their basking although they seemed to be discussing the next move against Greg.
After some banter, a few more trucks arrived bringing us to 6 trucks. Pierre in his Liberty, Greg, Christoph, and myself were flyi...
