Outback Box

Here at EOTB, a lot of us spend the winter months working on our rigs and getting ready for a new season of off-roading.

By popular demand and club recommendation, we present to you, our recommendations for an Outback Box – the box of “stuff” many of us carry in our rigs to get us through the day, or weekend, or week.

Important

  • a 20 or 30 foot yank strap rated at more than 2 times the loaded weight of the vehicle (for example 18 000 lbs)

  • one D-Ring (at least) also rated at more than 2 times the loaded weight of the vehicle (for example 18 000 lbs)

  • gloves

  • tool kit including various sockets, screw drivers, pliers/cutters, hammer, etc.

  • rain/insulated jacket

  • bug spray

  • flash light

  • tire pressure guage

  • candle (we do live in Canada)

  • 1litre each of Motor oil, Transmission fluid, and gear oil, power steering, brake fluid

  • Duct tape

  • Ground sheet

  • Fuses

  • Serpentine belt

  • JB weld or Tecksteel (or other formable metal repair epoxy)

  • permatex black gasket goop

  • spare AA and D batteries for flashlights and GPS

  • Tire repair kit

  • Small soldering kit for electrical

  • Matches (preferably waterproof)

  • Spade shovel

  • toilet paper (in a ziplock)

  • 8mm socket and ratchet wrench for u-joint and double-cardan bolts

  • 13mm 12-pt socket and box end wrench for wheel hub bolts

  • Hammer

  • Philips screwdriver

  • standard and metric socket set

  • Deep standard and metric socket set

  • 1/4, 3/8, and 1/2 inch ratchets

  • needle nose pliers
