While the weather forecast called for rain and clouds loomed overhead for parts of the day, We all managed to stay dry on Sunday, but we all wished the black flies had stayed away also. With a nice sized group and a couple of guests, we left Bells Corners and headed to Hopetown to meet Chris and Nick where we also collected another guest and made our way to the trail head. (more…)

Trail Report – Lavant – May 2010

Well it was turning into an awesome day, weather wise, when I met the group in Hopetown on-route to Lavant. There were no blackflies at the trailhead as we aired down but the mosquitoes took over where the blackflies left off. We started down the trail in good time and all seemed familiar but then the trail opened up into a freshly bulldozed logging road. (more…)

Trail Report – Gorge – April 2010

When we arrived in Bells Corners on Sunday, it was clear we were going to have a large group. With an excess of 20 trucks in the parking lot, and knowing that others would be joining us in Antrim and in Burnstown, we decided to split the group. With one group headed to Antrim, and to the trail head via Burnstown, we made our way to the trail. Having collected all the members and guests, we stopped briefly to air-down, disconnect and unload. Once again it was decided to split the group...

EOTB Web Site Technology

For those interested in the technology behind the scenes or considering setting up their own web site: The current EOTB web site runs on the Zikula Web Application Toolkit. This was a natural evolution from the previous site which was built on PostNuke. Back in 2006 we looked at PHP-Nuke and found it unstable and not secure enough for our liking. PostNuke had come out of PHP-Nuke but had been tightened up and ran a lot smoother. The upgrade from PostNuke to Zikula was accomplished by "freezin...

Trail Report – Lavant – October 2009

We had a small group today for our trail run, only 4 trucks. I was a little surprised when I arrived in Bells Corners and there were no trucks. Knowing that a few trucks were meeting me in Hopetown, I headed out on my own. In Hopetown, I met up with Greg in the Dodge RAM, Brian in his Tracker, Nick and myself in the TJs. (more…)

Trail Report – Gorge Pumpkin Run – October 2009

It turned out to be a nice day starting out sunny and clouding over a bit later in the day. Sure beats all the rain we've been getting. Most of us were still nursing full bellies from the weekends feasting and were content with a nice relaxing, easy trail run. We had a good turn out at our primary meeting spot in Bells Corners and we were all surprised to see Ian roll up in his Jeep. Unfortunately he had to pass on the trail run as he had his two sick little guy's to look after so he just...

Trail Report – Fall Camp – September 2009

Well it was a short and sweet weekend. The weather for Friday and Saturday was excellent and we knew that Sunday was going to be crummy. A few managed to get up to camp early Friday to enjoy the solitude of a beautiful fall day. From what I hear it soon turned to concern when no one seemed to be showing up and that maybe camp had been cancelled. Eventually people started to roll in around dinner time, set up camp and enjoy a fire that was already well established. Thanks Rod. (more&hell...

Trail Report – Darling – September 2009

With the weather cooperating and a nice sized group, we made our way from Bells Corners, through Hopetown, picking up some stragglers along the way. It was nice to see Pat, Frosty and Scuba Steve return to the trail. With TJs, an LJ, a JK and Frosty’s Cherokee, we had the Jeep family well represented and the Lexus and Landrover added even more variety. (more…)

Trail Run – Darling – September 2009

We had a relatively small group with only Matthew and Craig and Linda following me from Bells Corners. We were to meet Marcus and L.J in Almonte, and were pleasantly surprised to find John and Gina with them. We stopped there only long enough to do the paperwork then headed to Hopetown to pick-up Chris and Carol. Another brief stop, and we were on our way to the trailhead. (more…)

Trail Report – Lavant – August 2009

Despite the forecast for thunderstorms, we only got a few light showers. It wasn’t going to be our first surprise of the day. With a guest along, Brian in his Black TJ sporting 35” tires, we made our way from Bells Corners to pick-up Mike and Ed in Hopetown and meet Trevor’s Dad in his YJ at the trail head. We spent a few minutes at Dixon Lake airing down and catching up, but were soon ready to roll, except my TJ wouldn’t start. After a few minutes of frantic checking of fuses, relays and cha...

Trail Report – Lingham Lake – August 2009

With everyone packing-up their camp sites, we new it would be a late start and had decided the previous night to make it a short run up the Hydro line rather than doing the full Lingham Lake trail. With the camp sites vacated, we headed out to the hydro line with only a brief stop for gas. With 7 Jeeps and Nick in his sister's Durango, we started down the trail. (more…)

Trail Report – Camp EOTB – August 2009

Well I'll try to give a brief overview of Camp this year as there are so many small stories that happen within the weekend. People started rolling in late afternoon as usual, Norm showed up with a giant 20'x20' tent that his Scout Group graciously donated for the weekend. It didn't take long to set up especially motivated by the dark clouds looming and a few drops of rain that were felt. Normally on Friday night we don't have a very large crowd at the communal fire pit but this year w...
